Interview

Do you remember your first flight? How was it?

I’m afraid I don’t – it was 30 years ago after all!

What moments make flying worthwhile?

Any flight in which I get to play with the clouds is always special, but you can’t beat the experience of landing on the coast after a long XC flight when you’ve run out of land!

Your three top flying areas?

Saint André-les-Alpes, Annecy, Black Mountains / Brecon Beacons in South Wales. I can’t believe I’ve never flown in the Dolomites – that has to change!!

What are you doing on a day that is not flyable?

Kitesurfing or cycling. And walking our chocolate Labrador «Monty» of course!

Most important paragliding successes?

I’ve done competitions in the past and won the Serial Class of the British Open in Ager on my Sigma 9 a few years ago, but now I measure success differently – my recent 800km vol-biv from Nice to Venice was definitely a success!

Why do you fly for ADVANCE?

You can’t really buy a bad glider these days, but for me Advance represents the perfect combination of performance, functionality, and style. Advance always goes the extra mile when designing equipment, so you know you’re going to get a well-rounded, well thought-out product.

What is your favourite food?

Any food that’s cooked in our campervan when my wife and I are away for a weekend or a longer trip!

What is your favourite quote in life?

I don’t suppose I’ll be the only team member to say that it’s Leonardo da Vinci’s «Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.» Of course, I also like Aaron’s motto «no pain, no gain» – I used that lots of times when dragging my children round long walks when they were younger!
