Fred Souchon lives in the French mountain sport mecca of Chamonix. He works there as a mountain rescuer and guide. With the Mont Blanc and its surroundings at his front door it is no surprise that he has been able to fly from this 4.810m peak many more than 10 times. In addition he has made several Vol-Biv expeditions to such places as the Himalayas and the Caucasus.

Interview

Do you remember your first flight? How was it?

Yes! I was speedriding in winter on the snowy slopes of Chamonix. A great memory, especially because it was a day shared with good friends.

What moments make flying worthwhile?

The simplest flights are often the best – for me these are climbing mountain tops with a light wing in my rucksack. My most extra-special flying experience was a flight around the Mont Blanc Massif finishing with a top-landing (4,880m). That was something unique!

Your three top flying areas?

The Mont Blanc Massif, naturally! And all the other places where I have something to discover :-)

What are you doing on a day that is not flyable?

Something in the mountains – climbing or hiking for example.

Why do you fly for ADVANCE?

For me ADVANCE, first and foremost, represents friendly adventure, existing for over 30 years. It is a dream to be part of this unbelievable team. I treasure the quality of ADVANCE products and mainly love the detail: that makes all the difference for me!

What is your favourite food?

A good steak after a flight.

What is your favourite quote in life?

The mountains and the sky give us the setting... it’s up to us to write the story :)
